Meet your Practitioner

Hello there!

Welcome to Skin Kinetics. My name is Gemalyne Martyn, your non-medic Aesthetic Practitioner and founder at Skin Kinetics. To date I have been in the practice for 3 years. Having to decide to change career back in the early 2020 prior to the Covid19  Pandemic, my journey to the Aesthetic Industry is not a very smooth one but thoroughly satisfying and very rewarding! Whilst I have spent 3 out of 4 years in College of Nursing back in my country, the Philippines, (Nursing is usually a 4-year course), I also consider myself as a highly creative person at heart with a fiery, entrepreneurial spirit. My first and second business journeys involve the creatives (paintings, artworks & furniture revamping). Later on, during the period of global lockdown due to Covid, I had a long think of what to take on next. I finally came up with the idea of infusing my medical background into my creative endeavours eventually giving birth to Skin Kinetics, where my canvas is now faces and bodies! I couldn't be more happier that this decision actually brought a great deal of satisfaction into my entire career-life!

I'd be delighted to impart what i always believe:

Be The Better Version Of Yourself!

I am looking forward to meeting you all, beautiful people.

Sincerely yours,

Gem xx

Botulinum Toxin (Clostridium Botulinum)

Blog entry date: 8 April 2024

Welcome to Blogg'em- the newest page addition to our website!

To christen this new section I will be inputting bits of information on the ever popular aesthetic treatment for wrinkles named Botulinum Toxin aka 'botox'.

Unbeknownst to many, Botulinum Toxin, has been around and been in use way back as early as the 18th century. The first botulinum poisoning via consumption of meat and blood sausages occurred in South West Germany, led to the discovery of the toxin pathogen, whereby a district medical officer called Justinus Kerner who is also a well-known poet, has published the first accurate and complete description of the symptoms of the food-borne Botulism. He also attributed the intoxication to a biological poison- Clostridium Botulinum and further postulated that the toxin might be used for treatment purposes.

By 1895, an outbreak of Botulism in a small Belgian village of Ellezelles led to the discovery of the pathogen "Clostridium Botulinum" by Emile Pierre van Ermengem.

By the 1970's, Alan B. Scott and Edward J. Schantz pioneered the modern botulinum toxin treatment, when the BT type- A toxin was used in medicine to correct Strabismus, a condition that affects the alignment of the eyes. Other preparations of the type-A toxin were developed and manufactured in the United Kingdom, Germany and China, whereas a therapeutic type-B toxin was prepared in the United States.

To date, the toxin has been used to treat a wide variety of conditions associated with muscular hyper-activity, glandular hypersecretions (hyper-sweating) and pain. By the early 90's, the toxin has been introduced to the world of Aesthetics, treating wrinkles and since then has been considered as the most, popular, safest and most effective anti-wrinkle remedy in the Aesthetic Industry.

Hope you enjoy reading this post and  if you have any questions about this magical substance that makes   our pesky wrinkles disappear, don't hesitate to message or call us, via our  Contact Us portal.

Until then, bye for now. :)

Gem xx

Banishing the 'Bowtox' Myth

I had a lady walked in my clinic one day enquiring for Anti-wrinkle 'Bowtox' treatment. According to her she had not done it yet but considering having it for her forehead wrinkles. Her concern was for the treatment leaving her with more prominent wrinkles once she stopped doing the treatment, after having them in a regular basis which is at least 3 times a year.

So to break this myth, I told her how Anti-Wrinkle injection works. This protein substance works against the dynamics of the facial muscles, inhibiting their movements therefore less lines and creases will develop. It generally works between 3-4 months, but this period might vary depending on each client's lifestyle, habits, occupation, age, etc.

Because Anti-Wrinkle Injections work on a specific period of time, the muscle dynamics will come back as normal if you decide to stop having them. And if you are used to having this treatment on a regular basis, you are used to seeing your face wrinkle-free for a longer period of time. Once you stopped, and sees your creases back, yes, it will be very disappointing indeed, but this is only because you stopped having the treatment, it is not the case of more wrinkles appeared because of the stopping of the injections after having them regularly! Call this optical illusion and it is deceiving your brain!

On the contrary, the earlier you start having anti-wrinkle injections, the more it becomes beneficial to your appearance as the treatment delays the formation of your wrinkles through time. Makes sense, doesn't it? Still, this decision will depend on your personal choice, liking and circumstances.

So yes, folks, nothing to be feared of Anti-Wrinkle Injections! They are a delight once you get to know them. : )

The AESTHETIC INDUSTRY -

Behind the Scenes (part 1) ...

Bow-tox....Lip Fillers....Skin Boosters... how well do we really know them?

Let's get to know these babies, shall we?

At this very point of time, many of us would already have heard about these state-of-the-art, non-invasive/ non-surgical procedures, that seemed to hit the entire beauty market- of various age group, gender, ethnicity, race, economic status and genre. But there's one, major thing that really stops people from actually indulging in these procedures, despite knowing that most of these are truly effective, safe and something that can affect and boost their confidence in a positive way-  PRICES. Yes, it's the COST of these treatments that is serving as the "pause button" inside the "decision-making" compartment of our brains! Although this is a given, are they really that expensive? Or are these pricey treatments justifiable on their own?

I think it is fair to say, that yes, it will be difficult to understand the rationale behind the prices, especially if you are outside the zone of the Aesthetic Industry.

Firstly, Aesthetics is widely considered as "Luxury Treatments". I did not make this up,  promise! It's all in the word "luxury".

Aesthetics is that one branch of a myriad of businesses that are not necessary or vital to have, but rather gives you the option to choose to have, with that strong, charismatic pull attached to it that makes you go and say "yes". And why not when the end-results that these treatments are offering are so amazing, it takes years off your looks! Who doesn't want that?

Secondly, the products used in these treatments aren't cheap, uh-uh. Most of the products are procurred from a reputable pharmacy, not mentioning the dis-emboweling process of the entire logistics and bureaucracy involved in acquiring them. On this note, let me say, watch out for "Black Markets" ! You might be offered an unbelievably low price for Aesthetic treatments, and now you know why....(will discuss this matter in another part of the upcoming blog installments on this topic.)

Last but not the least, not many of you out there have the slightest idea of how costly the Aesthetic Trainings were, on the part of your chosen Practitioner or Clinician. Yes, these trainings cost us blood, sweat, money and tons of brain cells for us to be able to hold clinic and offer our services to all of you, so that you will have the option to enhance the beauty that is already in you.

So, let me wrap things up by also saying, there is no price for Confidence. If these treatments give you satisfaction and makes you feel good and happy about yourselves, it's worth every penny. Just make sure that whatever it is that you are going for in terms of getting treatments, ensure that they are all in line with your expectations, and circumstances as these aspects could influence  your decision-making process.

Hope you all enjoy the read, until next blog folks! :)

The Importance of AFTER CARE

When a client goes for a treatment, as a part of an Aesthetic clinic's safety protocol, client is given some after care advise. This could be verbal or in written form. This practice is a vital element on your Aesthetic clinician's duty of care, post administration of the procedure, and also with utmost importance on the part of the client as the recipient of a chosen treatment.

Why is this so?

Post treatment, you will be required to adhere to  certain strict rules to follow, with regards to managing the aftermaths of your chosen Aesthetic procedure. This is to ensure the efficacy of your treatment and to avoid any complications that will serve detrimental to the client's health and well-being.

So when your Practitioner say: "Drink plenty of water for the first 24 hrs post treatment ...", just do it! This might sound basic, tedious and very boring, but the mere simplicity involved in the process of Hydration really bears a therapeutic impact on our inner system which works wonders in our bodies on a molecular level- something we often take for granted. Not to mention the complementary benefits of Hydration on your Meso-therapy treatments!

So, gals and guys, enjoy your treatments and don't forget to H2O yourselves, regularly! :)

What is Vitamin B12 Therapy?

Blog entry date: 21 May 2024

It is common knowledge that our bodies need essential nutrients and burnt calories that comes from the food we eat every single day, to fuel our daily activities. Unfortunately, we do not actually get all the complete nutrients that we need, for many various reasons. This is why we see bottled supplements available over-the-counter that we can buy from shops. These bottled, oral vitamin supplements are good, yet, not enough to give us the maximum energy boost that we need each day. They are not easily absorbed in our blood stream as they have to be taken orally and they go directly down our digestive system. For this reason, the injectable form of vitamin supplements are way far better than the orally taken vitamin supplements. One of these Vitamins that we offer in our clinic is the Vitamin B12. This specific derivative of Vitamin B help our bodies to fight fatigue & lethargy, enhances focus and concentration, promotes better sleeping pattern, enhances vitality, and boosts metabolism rate. Vitamin B12 Therapy is an effective and safe procedure, and you can never get over-dosed with the substance as your body quickly utilises the nutrients, powering your daily activities.

We offer a 3+1 package on this treatment which means you get 4 treatments for the price of 3!

Call, message or book your appointment to avail of this amazing treatment.
